CRIMINAL LAW SUMMARY

The state understands crimes as wrong acts and punishes guilty people, but crimes can be understood differently in different countries. State cannot say that a person is guilty until state proofs the guilt.

There are two important elements to a crime: the criminal act and the criminal state of mind of the person at that moment when the person has committed the crime. In Anglo-American the crime elements are known as Actus Reus and Mens Rea. The act must be a substantial cause of the result. Person can avoid guilt or the guilty can be reduced if one of actions are proofed defense, duress, insanity, intoxication, self-defense or crime of passion. Mitigation is not the same as defense.

Nowadays the crime rate is growing and euthanasia causes many discussions, people cannot say if euthanasia is a crime of killing or not.

MY FUTURE PROFESSION

This is my first year at Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius. I am happy that I had an opportunity to join this university, because in my view it is one of the best universities in Lithuania.

I am studying Law and Penitentiary work. I am satisfied with my this profession. You will ask why? Because I have always dreamed about a work related with crimes and investigation. I am keen on crime scene investigation films and all the stuff related with it. Maybe this profession is not very girlish, but I like challenges.

I hope that one day I will become a professional worker and no one and nothing will stop me from reaching my dream.

NEVER AGAIN SUMMARY

There are some pluses and minuses while talking about capital punishment.

Arguments for:

Capital punishment makes murderers and robbers think twice before committing crimes. The public would be safer and criminals would not commit crimes repeatedly. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth doctrine says - criminals have to accept the consequences. Taxpayers have to pay huge amounts of money in oder to keep murderers and criminals in jail.

Arguments against:

The deterrence theory was incorrect, criminals are not afraid of death penalty. Not quilty people can be convicted and sent to the death row. State should not kill people and show an appropriate example for the citizens. Preaches are against the death penalty, human life is sacred.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL

Amnesty International is an international non-governmental organization. Organization founded in UK in 1961 by Peter Benenson.

The aim of Amnesty International is to work towards a world where every person on the planet is fully protected by the rights given in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Organization works to end the death penalty, torture, extra-judicial executions, the imprisonment of prisoners of conscience and political prisoners. Amnesty International attempts to ensure fair trials and lawful punishment of people who commit human rights.

Amnesty International takes part in many different activities. Firstly, organization works to bring an end to fear of violence for woman. Secondly, Amnesty International works on urgent action. Thirdly, Amnesty International works in Mediterranean countries. Fourthly, sells books and uses money in oder to fight human right abuses. At the moment there are running two global campaigns: stop Violence Against Woman campaign and Control Arms campaign. Amnesty International organizes demonstrations all over the world, writes letters to the goverments and informs society about human right abuses. Amnesty International encourage people to join the organization and do not be apathetic.

In 1977 Amnesty International was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for peace. The following year received the United Nations Human Rights Award.

Amnesty International works in many different countries. There are some reports about situation Lithuania. In 2007 report the basic point is trafficking of women and girls. In report Amnesty International describes the situation in Lithuania and compares it with other countries.

Amnesty International is a useful organization and helps people without charge.
